It is worth mentioning that we didn't increase or maintain our customer base by ever publicly boasting about who buys what from us. So, whatever you ask about, or acquire from us, will not be used as a recommendation by us for any others to do the same!

Welcome to our most visited page!
No, we can't explain it either!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the world of covert surveillance, video cameras are touted  as working at such low LUX levels that it defies all logic that the person making the claims has any idea what "LIGHT" is, what it does, or what the term/noun means.
Some major players even claim ZERO LUX for their products! (In the real world there is no such thing as 0.000 lux. There *can* be no visible light, but not ZERO LUX.) Its a bit like claiming there is no temperature.
Think of the very center of a rotating wheel, where the top of the wheel is moving  from right to left, the bottom of that same wheel is moving from left to right. The extreme top and bottom of the wheel are moving at the same speed. However, the rotational speed reduces the closer to the center the measurements are taken and once the center point is past, the movement is now in the opposite direction. At the very center it has no movement.
"LIGHT" provides the ability for our eyes to see, however, we do not actually see anything other than light refected FROM the object our eyes are 'looking' at.
Human eyes normally see light in what is called the "Visible" part of the spectrum, 390 to 710 nanometers. Some  humans of course, can see both higher and lower than this, there being exceptions to every rule!
This fits between ULTRA VIOLET (UV) and INFRARED (IR). Think of these as being too bright (UV) and too dark (IR) for human eye sight. However, some CCD cameras 'see' when a scene is lit with infrared. Normally, color cameras have special glass filters to PREVENT them working in the IR frequencies. These are called a cut filter and are part of the optical train. Its removal will not only effect the colors, but possibly make the camera impossible to focus.
Lux, "What's Lux? and what is 1.0 lux?"
Some of the confusion in the past was brought about by the common use of "FOOT CANDLES" (an Imperial measurement) in America, and "Lux" (Lumens per square Metre which is a Metric measurement) everywhere else. Loosely speaking, it was accepted, by most people that 1 Lux was equal to 10 Foot Candles. With a Foot Candle being that amount of light which could be used at 12 inches distant from a burning candle. But not the level of light detected by a "Lux Meter" pointed at a candle 12 inches away from said candle!
This simplistic approach, of equating 10 Foot Candles to 1 Lux, was flawed as there are 39.37 inches to a metre, and only 12 inches in a foot. This is further complicated by one of the definitions being based upon the inverse square rule, and the other not.
However, to compare the two formulae, you have to get them closer together, so that gives a measurement of "Candles per square Yard." Or, "Candles per square 36 inches" as opposed to "Lumens per square 39.37 inches."
This closeness of 36 inches to 39.37 inches, or 3 feet to 1 metre added to the confusion, as it was considered that the odd 3.37 inch difference didn't much matter. It being far easier to multiply and divide by ten, than introduce a multiple of 9.29 into the mathematics.
More on this formulae here
Suffice it say, All of our cameras and camcorders operational specifications adhere to, and always have, this method of calculating "LUX".
By the way, "MIDNITEYES" is the Brand Name of our CCD cameras and modified Camcorders, these low-light, infrared sensitive, COLOR camcorders are still available in DV formats. These camcorders have been in production in the USA since 1990. All work in "Real Time" and in conditions below 0.5 lux and some models are down to true 0.1 lux, or less, without additional illumination. However, for those that need it, and can use it legally, we can provide totally "Covert Signature" infrared illuminators.
If a "Truth in Advertising" law was introduced, some advertizers would have to change their '1 Lux' labels into 5 or even 8 Lux!
This is 5 or 6 "f" stops! It is to be hoped that this standardization will eventually be introduced in the commercial SURVEILLANCE WORLD. Along with true resolution claims. Who knows, you might even get convenience store cameras installed that are worth a damn.
